Become Your Own Healer: A Beginner’s Guide to Self-Healing

There’s a quiet truth we’ve seen again and again in over twenty-five years of working with people: your soul carries an infinitely great power, and much of healing is simply remembering it. You don’t have to hand your wellbeing entirely to someone else. With a few gentle, practical tools, you can learn to protect your energy, clear what isn’t yours, and reconnect with your own inner guidance. This is what it means to become your own healer.

This guide is not a replacement for medical care — always seek help from healthcare when you need it. Think of it as a complementary path: a way to give understanding and power back to yourself.

Start by getting to know your own energy

Before you can protect your energy, you need to know how it actually feels to be in it. Many people — especially those who are highly sensitive — learned early in life to sense and absorb everyone else’s feelings while neglecting their own. If you don’t know how your own energy feels, it’s hard to stay in it.

A simple practice: take at least fifteen minutes a day, alone, somewhere you can relax — in nature if possible, or a room where you feel safe. Settle in and ask yourself: How does my energy feel within me? If you notice you feel divided or influenced by something outside you, say, as strongly as you can:

“I free myself from all energy that is not mine — on all levels. I trust that I will be helped to clear away external energy. I am one with the amazing energy of my soul.”

At first this can feel diffuse. But the more you consciously observe your own energy, the more clearly you’ll feel it — and the more present you become in your body and the here and now.

Notice when you’re carrying energy that isn’t yours

We’re all connected, so we can’t (and shouldn’t try to) wall ourselves off from others completely. But we can become overloaded when we take on everything around us. A few common ways we pick up other people’s heaviness:

  • Taking excessive responsibility for someone else, and absorbing their pain
  • Adapting our opinions to whoever we’re with, and losing our own centre
  • Listening to everyone else more than to our own inner voice

A useful check: after time with a particular person or place, ask yourself, How does it feel in my energy now? Have I picked up any heaviness? It’s detective work — but it’s worth it.

Set boundaries to protect your energy

If we weren’t taught to set boundaries as children, we tend to struggle with them as adults. Yet boundaries are one of the main keys to protecting your energy. In practice this means learning to:

  • Set boundaries even when it feels uncomfortable
  • Say no to what doesn’t belong in your life
  • Prioritise your own needs and energy
  • Reduce contact with what consistently drains you

Boundaries can stir up fear or guilt at first, and sometimes people around you push back. Standing by your decisions through that discomfort is part of the practice. Remember: by building yourself up, you actually have more to give others.

Clear your energy — a simple daily ritual

Clearing heavy or lower energy doesn’t have to be complicated. Even a few minutes a day helps, especially if you’re very open and receptive. One gentle method:

  1. Set an intention that you want to clear your energy.
  2. Ask for help — many people work with Archangel Michael, but use whoever or whatever feels right: “Clear my entire energy system of heaviness and anything that is not mine, and replenish me with loving energy from Source. I am in my full power.”
  3. Take a few deep breaths and give thanks.

Doing it wholeheartedly matters more than doing it perfectly. Keeping your energy field clear is both a good habit and a loving gesture toward yourself.

Come back to your intuition

Underneath all of this is your intuition — your connection to your higher self and soul. It’s always non-judgmental and loving, and it’s always there, even when life gets loud enough that you can’t hear it. As children most of us had easy contact with it; part of healing is simply coming home to it again.
